Imbalance is often due to the heterogeneous nature of grinding wheel construction. A wheel contains a great number of unevenly distributed grains, which cause intrinsic imbalance. This imbalance is compounded by a variety of factors, including incorrect mounting of the wheel, varying widths of the wheel, coolant absorption into the wheel and imbalance in the mandrel or arbor, etc. Even carefully established wheel balance, considering all the variables, will not last long, even with advanced pre-balancing technology. Due to wear and frequent dressing of the wheel, the rotational dynamics of a grinding wheel are always changing. For these reasons, balancing of grinding wheels has long been recognized as a critical step in the production process, ensuring part quality and improving production efficiency.
